Luxembourg to Mpaka Challenge for United World College of Southern Africa (UWCSA): Waterford Kahhlaba
The Mpaka Challenge is a fundraising programme, put in place by a former International School of Luxembourg teacher, which intends to fund two full scholarships in the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA for students from the Mpaka refugee camp in Eswatini. Successful completion of this programme will, amongst others, unlock a Davis UWC Scholars Programme scholarship for a four-year degree at a university in the United States, offered to UWC alumni for over 22 years.
Main aims
- Identifying students with outstanding academic and interpersonal skills
- Providing opportunities for young people from the refugee camp, as well as for their families, who often remain in the camp
- Giving these students the opportunity to “give back” through the Creativity Action and Service (CAS) programme and community service projects
